Artist's Comments

The final product of "Beauty" and "Beast".

Yeah, Beauty really wishes she hadn't asked for that rose.

Thanks. Me too, actually. It's always a bit disappointing when he gets turned into a prince.

that really upset me as a kid, its true!

Have you seen that old black and white French movie version? i forget the director's name, but there's a prince character as well, who is arrogant and all that jazz, but he gets killed trying to storm the Beast's castle. In the end, when the Beast transforms, he looks like the dead prince. I think it's very sad.

i like how they look so awkward together in this picture.

This is so pretty... I really love your version of Beauty (or Belle as I prefer. Well it means the same thing, just in french). And the beast is really great too ^^ Reminds me a bit of Sarah and Vincent too.

Gorgeous! =D
I, as you seem to, love fairytales, and it's lovely to see such lovely depictions of them. You did a lovely job on the beast (I never seem to be able to make a beast look beast-like, so he always ends up as some sort of slightly mal-formed human with a bad need for a shave.... ;) )
Your style, technique, everything, is just lovely. I am inspired! =)

Heh. I've never seen any of that series, but you're right, there is some similarity. I didn't notice it until after I'd done my first B&B picture, though. Sub-conscious influence? The pictures of Sara and Vincent that I can find do look kinda familiar to me.

Anyway, thanks for your comment!

No, sadly, the only movie version I've seen is Disneys, which I liked despite myself (I'd like to hate them for what they did to the story, but the movie was so good!). I'm trying, in a vague sort of way, to get my hands on Jean Cocteau's version, but I couldn't tell you if that's the one you described, since I haven't seen it.

I'm really glad that the awkwardness came across - that was really the entire point of the picture. Neither of them knows quite what to do or say, so they end up with a hugely awkward silence every night. Or so I imagine, anyway. :)
