More fairytale stuff!
The oh-so-climactic scene in which Beauty returns to the Beast, only to find him dead.
I've been working on this picture kind of obsessively for the past few days, following a brief bout of B&tB-mania (don't worry, I think I'm over it now). At this point, I can't quite decide if I love it or hate it. I tried a new thing with this - smudging a lot to get the smooth grey tones, then going back and darkening the darks and bringing up highlights with an eraser. It was really kind of fun, and it cut back on time quite a bit. The thing I was really going for was to give her a realistically 'ugly' crying face, while not making her totally unattractive and unsympathetic (I could have gone the wimpy way and hidden her face in her hands, but where's the challenge in that?). That's when I discovered that balancing between romance and realism is a very tricky thing. I may give it a shot later, with hopefully better results.
Oh wow!!! This is soo beautiful and moving and so unbelievably well-shaded! I can't say how much I admire you. I'm going to promote your pics a bit on the thumbshare chat channel... you should go there and post your thumbnails too, you definitely deserve muuuuch mooooore attention and publicity.
Thank you very much! I'm still very new and clueless about deviantART, so I'm not even sure what the thumbshare chat channel is. Being that I'm still stumbling around in the dark (relatively speaking), I doubly appreciate your efforts on my behalf.
You're very welcome. as for the channel, if you scroll up your user page, you'll see, next to the submit button, a chat button. When you hit it, you'll see a list of chatrooms. Hit the one called #thumbshare. It's a channel where you can post thumbnails of your works. To do that, when you have joined the channel, you have to type :thumbxxxxxxx: where instead of xxxxxxxx you type in the number that is included in the URL of a particular deviation. I hope this is clear enough...
I really love this one... the shading is perfect. Pushing the darks and bringing out the highlights really does make all the difference. And you've captured the emotion perfectly. Very beautifully done
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 10 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
When it comes to community spirit, `Rushy is a shining example. From participating in devmeets, to providing positive encouragement to other artists, `Rushy can always be found demonstrating what it really takes to be a true deviant. It's without any hesitation that we are delighted to award the Deviousness Award for July 2009 to `RushyRead More
